Research

Research and development is one of our four main tasks, which has a major bearing on our ability to tackle the three remaining tasks: disease surveillance and preparedness; diagnosis and analysis; and knowledge transfer.

We need to be at the cutting edge of knowledge about infectious diseases. We must be one step ahead.

We have our own research operation and extensive research collaborations with universities including the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences and Uppsala University. We take part in international research networks and have close contacts with other veterinary institutes throughout the world.

We also take part in the concerted EU initiatives aimed at improving food safety and animal health throughout the European Union. Many decisions that concern animal feed and human food are taken at EU level.
